Oriental Art
Made by Cathy Scovill
Finished Size: 33" H x 35" W
Oriental Art was inspired by a
beautiful ceramic/pottery wall hanging seen at the Alexandria,
VA Torpedo Factory Artisan Gallery. After asking the artist's
permission, Cathy Scovill sketched the piece out on paper, and
created this piece of fiber art using the red crackle Kanji.
Beaded fringe embellishments were added for a very attractive
dimensional finished touch.

Rainbow Geckos
Designed by Kelly Corbridge
Finished Size: 35 1/2" H x 28 1/2" W
Kelly Corbridge, a quilt designer
of McCall's Quilting publication's fame, created Rainbow
Geckos. Kelly used a rainbow of hand-dyed fabrics in a simple
Seminole pieced border. Adding black to the hand-dyed fabrics
in the border enhanced the colors in the batik & border, both.
Consider putting a narrow black inner border around any batik
panel, it will enhance the colors and make your piece much more
vivid.

Embellished Dragon and Frogs
Created by Tricia Camp
These were my first attempts at beading. I tried
simply outlining the images with seed beads of various colors,
trying to match the panel as best as I could. I added a few different
shaped beads to the dragon's scales and to his "whiskers"
just to do something different. I learned a lot about the process
along the way and definitely got better at it as I went along.
I still think, however, I'd like to (and need to) take a class
or two. Or maybe find a book on embellishing with beads, rather
than the project books I have now.
Made with batik
fabric paintings.
