Ellen Anne Eddy, quilt instructor and author of Thread Magic, calls the batik panels "instant quilts." You don't have to piece or appliqué the block, just use a stabilizer, and embellish it with lots of thread.

She calls this piece her "Kick Ass Cat," since the *cat has such attitude. Ellen used a stiff interfacing behind the batik panel to create a trademark piece intensely embellished with metallic thread. Some areas are so intensely embellished, you cannot see the fabric. The finished piece is 27"H x 18 1/2"W.
